Toddlers and Two's
These classes are special, nurturing classrooms set up especially for our youngest boys and girls. Their day begins with child-directed activities, followed by an age-appropriate circle time of songs and stories, introducing basic concepts such as shapes and colors. The morning also includes teacher-directed art projects as well as opportunities for the children to explore art materials on their own. The children all receive a morning snack and some time to play outdoors, giving them the chance to practice their newly-developed gross motor skills such as running, jumping, climbing, and riding bikes. Lunch and rest time will follow this active play. After a relaxing rest time complete with quiet music, the children will have an afternoon snack followed by more outdoor play and/or child-directed activities.
Young Preschool
This class is a unique and exciting place to be for our older twos and young threes. This group was created to meet the needs of children who needed a little extra time to work on self-help skills such as toilet training. Each day begins with child-directed activities. Then the children are engaged in a Circle Meeting to work on songs, rhymes, shapes, colors, and letter and number skills. We also read stories and discuss stories and lessons from the Bible. Children enjoy talking with friends over a morning snack. Next is teacher-directed lesson time. Children explore and strengthen their skills in shape and color recognition, number and letter recognition, and fine and gross motor skill improvement as well as moral and virtue lessons. Then everyone enjoys a bit of fresh air and outdoor play. The day concludes with a closing circle of songs and stories, followed by lunch and a time of rest and relaxation. The afternoon is full of child directed activities, music, snack, and outdoor play until the children are picked up.
Older Preschool
This class is an energetic and lively place to grow and explore for our older threes and young fours. Children begin the day with child-initiated activities. Then they have a circle meeting where they discuss the weather and calendar. There is also a time for prayer, songs and the Pledge of Allegiance. Children enjoy a morning snack and Teacher-Directed activities that include letter and number skills, Bible stories/lessons, and art. Next is invigorating outdoor play to strengthen their bodies and imaginations. The class then comes inside to prepare for lunch. They sit with classmates to enjoy lunch and then it is quiet rest time. The afternoon concludes with a circle meeting of songs and stories and an afternoon snack and more outdoor play, as the class combines with our prekindergarten children.
Pre-kindergarten
This class is full of excitement and energy. Each child is encouraged to foster their independence as they prepare for Kindergarten. The morning begins with a Circle Meeting where children discuss the calendar and weather. They also sing songs, hear Bible stories and lessons, work on various letter and number skills, and hear books read aloud. We use the “Handwriting Without Tears” curriculum to develop handwriting and literacy skills. Children also enjoy a morning snack and outdoor playtime. Everyone enjoys a family-style lunch where teachers and children sit together to eat. Then it is quiet rest time when children are encouraged to rest. Following their rest, they are engaged in quiet restful activities one on one with a teacher at the tables. The day concludes with an afternoon snack and more strengthening of bodies and imaginations through outdoor play. The curriculum is composed of letter recognition, strengthening fine motor skills, following directions, moral and virtue lessons, number recognition, and simple pre-reading and mathematic skills.
Before and After Care
This program provides a safe and fun environment for Kindergarten and 1st graders from the Upper Moreland Primary School. Our location right next to the elementary school makes it ideal for dropping off and picking up your children. One of our teachers will walk the children right to the front door of the elementary school before their school day begins. Our aftercare teacher will pick the children up and bring them back to Hearts ‘n Hands. They start their afternoon with a snack and homework help, followed by some outdoor play and child-directed activities. Children who attend our after care are also able to attend Hearts ‘n Hands for any days the elementary school is closed or has an early dismissal.
Summer Camp
This is an exciting place to be for the summer break. Children enjoy the love of learning all summer through varied activities. There are many fun and exciting themes and special days. Campers enjoy sprinkler/water play every week and a host of other fun outdoor games and experiences. Teachers are excited to share the joy and excitement through science experiments, music and movement, Bible stories, games and relay races, and special summer “cooking” projects.
